Static – X Prepare for Tour, Stop in Dayton

Reprise
IndoMetalNews - Static-X is coming to Dayton this summer while also touring the country as part of the Pedal to the Metal tour. That tour features Black Label Society, Mudvayne and more.

“I’m very picky about who we tour with,” says Wayne Static (at right) of Static-X. “I think Static-X slaughter most bands live, and I pride myself in our show – I refuse to open for a band that I don’t think is worthy, so that says a lot about Mudvayne, Zakk Wylde, and this entire package.”

The Pedal to the Metal tour starts July 24th in Portland, ME and ends September 9 in Oklahoma City. Static-X will break from the tour to headline a show at McGuffy’s House of Rock on August 3rd. For more information on that show and to purchase tickets, visit www.mcguffys.net.

Static-X is currently touring behind their most recent release Cult of Static (Reprise), which includes the song “Lunatic” featuring Dave Mustaine of Megadeth on guitar.

Father Befouled Drummer Antichristus Takes His Own Life

IndoMetalNews - Guitarist Justin Stubbs of Father Befouled has issued the following statement about drummer Antichristus taking his own life:

"They say only Death is real, but when you are faced with it, it is always hard to comprehend. Last night I was informed that our drummer, Antichristus, had taken his own life. It is hard to put into words what this means, but I am shocked. AC (we are not revealing his real name - his wishes) was enigmatic and mysterious to all those who knew him, but at the same time he was an amazing friend and one of the most dedicated individuals I, and the rest of the band had ever known.

"His final recorded output with Father Befouled was to be the upcoming 'Rotting Godless Thrones' 7" for Nuclear War Now! Productions. Unfortunately all we have are rough drum rehearsals of the songs, and I am not sure if we can use any of them for the release. I will have to see what can be made usable and make the decision.

"His drumming will also be heard on our 'Profane Grace of the Trinity' split 7" with Cemetery Urn on Relapse Records, due out in January. We recorded this track over a year ago, and it was actually his first efforts for the band. AC was also the drummer for our brothers Prosanctus Inferi. Luckily they recorded their LP for Hell's Headbangers back in August. Not sure of the release, but it will certainly be out soonish. IT will be his finest effort in memorium.

"Lastly, AC also had a solo project entitled UNHOLY DEATH (named for the NME album). I was working with him to release his demo on cassette through Archasm. I, and his family feel it would be, without a doubt, his wish to see this happen. The demo was not finished, but I will release what I have, in it's unfinished entirety.

"We also feel that he would never want his decisions to hinder the progress of Father Befouled, so in that regard, we shall continue. For our future release(s), Decrepitaph's Elektrokutioner will become our drummer for recorded output. Future live performances at this point are not an option. We will eventually make a decision in that regard.

"His talents went beyond his time spent with Father Befouled, and his knowledge and dedication to the occult were immense. He was a truly gifted person, and to be blunt, too much so for this world. May he not rest in peace, but further explore his darkest imaginations now reality."

We're very sorry to all our fans in the States but it was out of our hands. We're pretty gutted we can't come and party with all of you but we assure you we will be back there in 2010. LIVE REVIEW: Slipknot at the Hollywood Palladium (Oct. 29, 2009)

IndoMetalNews - Slipknot aren’t sneaking up on anybody at this point in their career. They’ve spent the past decade turning the metal world end-over-end, their reputation preceding them as a highlight reel of masked vomit, broken-bones, head-banging, hair-whipping and apocalyptic mayhem plays in the background.

They became a product of their own hype before their hype even had a chance to prove itself, to the point where their biggest story is often their mere survival

At the recently re-opened Palladium in Hollywood, CA, Thursday night, Slipknot not only lived up to the challenge of their hype, but they left it broken, beaten and scarred into submission. No, Slipknot aren’t going to sneak up on anybody… But the sheer power and razor-sharp onslaught of their performance just might.

A run-of-the-mill metal band has enough problems locking down and keeping their sound intact onstage, so you’d have to excuse nine guys in macabre masks –a DJ, a sampler, two custom percussionists, two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer and a frontman – if their sound were to occasionally lead itself astray.

Yet it never does.

It would be one thing if they were just so damn loud you couldn’t hear yourself think above the rancor, but watching and listening to Slipknot’s Palladium hysterium from the safety of the balcony, you could pinpoint the precise riffing of guitarists Jim Root and Mick Thomson. Are moshpits more your speed? Then feel free to navigate the frenzy of the main floor, where at any point a small handful of peripheral circle pits fed the furious center of the floor, where during “People = Sh.t” two pits actually merged into one, both swirling in opposite directions.

If a tsunami had a soundtrack, it would be performed by Slipknot – airtight and impenetrable, and paralyzing in stature.

Drummer Joey Jordison and percussionists Shawn Crahan and Chris Fehn anchor the band’s sonic charge, with Root, Thomson and bassist Paul Gray leading the musical surge – Gray with blanket of cover fire, Thomson with the heavy artillery, and Root with a more refined spray. They work together masterfully, a cascade of guitar chords filling “Get This,” Thomson and Root sharing the spotlight on “Before I Forget,” and Crahan and Fehn strapping drums over the shoulder and creating the drum corps from hell during “Sulfur.”

At the helm, frontman Corey Taylor flips from the death chant decree of “Eyeless” and the equally as anguished, floodlit finish of “The Blister Exists,” to the melodically charmed splatter of “Wait and Bleed” and the vocally-driven, Bob Seger-on-sedatives matte of encore opener “Snuff.”

Taylor’s dynamics keep the songs fresh, while the band’s dynamics keep the crowd in a fever-pitched frenzy, Crahan getting Warriors-inspired as he attacks his beer-keg drum rack with an aluminum baseball bat during “Duality.” The floor became a tidal wave of surging bodies during “Surfacing,” but nothing could compare to the entire near-capacity crowd crouching to their knees during “Spit it Out,” waiting for Taylor to order an eruption that made the whole venue quake.

“Keep the dream alive,” Taylor told the crowd as he left the stage after the 90-minute set. There’s no telling what that dream is, but it would probably constitute a nightmare to much of this fine country.

And Slipknot wouldn’t have it any other way…

Slayer (2006)

IndoMetalNews - It is with great regret that Slayer announces the postponement of its Canadian Carnage"our with MEGADETH, which was due to begin on November 8th.

In addition, the band announces the postponement of its appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, which had been set for this Wednesday, November 4th. More information will be released shortly regarding the rescheduling of the Canadian dates, as well as the Kimmel appearance.

Slayer's Tom Araya is currently under the care of a specialist for a back injury, thought to be related to his on-stage activity, and the physician has ordered an immediate surgical procedure to take place in Texas tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

"What is foremost in our minds right now is that Tom do whatever he needs to to get this taken care of," said Slayer's Kerry King. "While all four of us are disappointed that we won't be able to see through all of our commitments set for the next few weeks, the most important thing is Tom's health. We thank the fans in Canada and here in L.A., the Megadeth camp, and everyone associated with Jimmy Kimmel Live for their understanding. We look forward to seeing you all soon."

Slayer's Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo are looking forward to meeting their fans at a previously announced in-store appearance this Wednesday, November 4th at 3:30 PM at the Hot Topic store located at the Hollywood and Highland complex.

Slayer's new album, World Painted Blood, is streaming in its entirety at this location.

World Painted Blood will be released on Tuesday, November 3rd in North America, and today - Monday, November 2nd - to the rest of the world. World Painted Blood will initially ship with four special collector's edition CD covers. Each of the four covers will display one-fourth of a continental map illustrated with human skulls and bones; when placed together, the four images form a complete and grisly map of the world.

All four of the initial CD packages will include a special blood-red, see-through top panel with the map displayed beneath it.

The World Painted Blood Deluxe Edition will have its own special layout of the map cover art and will be in a double-digipak housed in a blood-red, see-through plastic sleeve. The Deluxe Edition will include the World Painted Blood CD, the Playing With Dolls DVD, a 20-minute animated graphic novel featuring music from the album (including part of a new non-album song), and an expanded booklet. There is also a vinyl version available.

Rob Zombie

Formed: 1985
From: New York, NY, United States
Last Known Status: Active

Background

IndoMetalNews - Since 1985 Zombie has been carving out a strange legacy of music in the world of rock, beginning in with the formation of his brainchild White Zombie. From the start, White Zombie was a bizarre hybrid of hardcore/punk aggression, Lower East Side art-damage and hard rock thunder. As if that weren’t enough, these fixations were filtered through Mr. Zombie’s love of classic horror/sci-fi films, trash hot rod culture and generally, all things on the dark side.

White Zombie was most noted for their release 'Astro Creep 2000'. The album reached #10 on billboard and stayed for two months. After this record, we started to see a little different style from Zombie. What might best be called Techno-Horror Rock. Since then Zombie has gone solo, simply renaming the band 'Rob Zombie'.

Rob Zombie is a man of many faces. He has done work on the Beavis and Butthead movie, directed all videos since going solo, wrote a script for 'The Crow 3' (which got scrapped), and is currently in the works of creating and directing his first feature film entitled 'House Of 1000 Corpses'. In short, Rob Zombie is an entertaiment genius.
